Foundations of Presence
Your First Words in Egypt
This page is where you learn your first words properly — with pronunciation, context, and intention. Not to perform. To arrive with confidence.
Why These Words Matter
When you travel with ENA, your guide speaks your language. But Egypt itself speaks through people — drivers, staff, shopkeepers, helpers.
These words do three things:
- They soften first contact
- They signal respect immediately
- They give you calm in moments of uncertainty
Used once, they change how the day feels. Used calmly, they change how you feel.
Your First Words
(With Pronunciation)
Read each word slowly. Say it out loud once before moving on.
Ahlan (AH-lan) — Hello
Use this when you meet your driver, guide, or hotel staff.
Sabah el-kheir (sa-BAH el-KHAIR) — Good morning
Perfect early in the day, especially before asking for anything.
Aywa (AY-wa) — Yes
Laʾ (LA) — No
Short, clear, and used constantly.
Min fadlak / Min fadlik
(min FAD-lak / FAD-lik) — Please
To a man / to a woman. One of the most respected words you can use.
El-hammam fein?
(el-ham-MAAM fayn?) — Where is the bathroom?
Practical questions remove stress before it begins.
Bititkallim ingleezi?
(bi-tit-KAL-lim ing-LEE-zi?) — Do you speak English?
Ask gently. You are inviting help, not demanding it.
Mish fahim / Mish fahma
(MISH FAH-im / FAH-ma) — I don’t understand
Use this when someone speaks too quickly.
Shukran (SHOOK-ran) — Thank you
Simple. Respectful. Always noticed.
Guided Pronunciation Audio
Gold and Pharaoh members unlock guided pronunciation audio — spoken slowly and clearly, exactly as these phrases are used in real interactions.
This audio is not about perfection. It removes hesitation so the words come out calmly when you need them.
Reading aloud still works if you do not yet have access. The audio simply adds confidence through rhythm and repetition.
Your Practice
