Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a journey with Egyptian Nile Adventures? These answers cover the questions travelers ask us most — from planning and payments to comfort, safety, and what life on the ground really feels like.

Planning

What makes ENA different?

With ENA, you don’t just see Egypt — you step into its story. Our guides are Egyptologists and storytellers who bring temples, tombs, and local life to life with warmth and meaning.

From the moment you arrive, every detail is cared for with intention: comfortable pacing, thoughtful guidance, and experiences designed to help you feel connected, not rushed.

Travel with ENA feels personal, human, and beautifully crafted.

Do you run private tours or groups?

Both. Private tours are our default — ideal for couples, families, and friends who want to travel at their own rhythm.

Small group departures are available on request for families, friends, and special gatherings. We keep numbers low so the experience stays personal and flexible.

How far in advance should I book?

Peak months from October–April fill quickly, especially for favorite guides and dahabiya sailings.

If you have specific dates in mind, inquire as soon as Egypt is on your heart — we’ll confirm availability, hold space where possible, and walk you through next steps clearly.

What’s the best time to visit?

October–April: Comfortable weather, popular season, lively atmosphere at sites.

May–September: Hotter days, but quieter temples, softer Nile evenings, and excellent pool and river time.

We’ll help you choose dates that fit your comfort level and travel style.

Customization

Can you design around my interests (history, food, photography)?

Absolutely. Tell us what fascinates you — hieroglyphs, local food, hidden tombs, village life, photography, markets, or all of the above.

We’ll tailor your itinerary so every day feels meaningful and aligned with your curiosities, not someone else’s checklist.

How much free time will I have?

Unlike rushed group tours, ENA builds in breathing room — pool time, market browsing, café stops, and quiet moments to simply watch the Nile drift by.

Your free time depends on your itinerary, but we always design days that feel balanced rather than packed.

Can you accommodate food allergies or dietary needs?

Yes. Egypt is very flexible with dietary requirements. We can help you inform restaurants in advance, communicate your needs on the ground, and select traveler-friendly places.

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free travelers are all welcome — just tell us what you need so we can plan well.

Can you arrange Nile cruises or dahabiyas?

Yes. We match the right vessel — classic cruise ships or intimate dahabiyas — to your style, timing, and comfort.

Your guide connects each sailing day with the land and stories around you so it feels like one flowing journey, not separate pieces.

Do you offer special celebrations (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.)?

Yes — we love celebrating with you.

Tell us the occasion, and we’ll help weave it into your journey with thoughtful touches so it feels personal, not staged.

On the Ground

Do you help with airport arrivals and finding my guide?

Yes. Your ENA journey begins the moment you land. A team member meets you outside the airport with your name on a sign and brings you directly to your private car.

You won’t be left guessing where to go or who to meet after a long flight.

Do you include shopping stops?

Only if you want them.

If you prefer a calmer experience, simply tell your guide — you will not be pressured into commission-driven shopping.

For curated, no-pressure shopping, our Souvenir Concierge can be accessed online and deliver items directly to your hotel.

Do you help with SIM cards or connectivity?

Yes. We can recommend simple options for fast local data and help you get set up so you stay connected when you need to, and unplug when you don’t.

Families

Are your trips kid-friendly?

Yes — kid-ready and parent-easy.

Tut’s activities and stories build excitement before travel. Our guides spark curiosity and make the sites engaging for children, helping the whole family enjoy the day together.

Is there a minimum age?

There’s no strict rule. It depends on your child’s comfort, attention span, and interests.

We’ll help you decide what pacing and itinerary style will feel best for your family.

Payments & Terms

What’s typically included — and what isn’t?

Included (typical ENA journey):

  • Licensed Egyptologist guide
  • Airport meet-and-greet
  • Private transportation
  • Carefully selected experiences and entrance fees as noted
  • Pre-trip support plus simple cultural guides

Not included:

  • International flights
  • Visas
  • Some meals
  • Optional add-ons and extensions
  • Personal purchases
  • Tips (“baksheesh”)

Each itinerary lists exact inclusions and exclusions so there are no surprises.

How do payments work?

You’ll see full pricing at booking, with deposit options when available. Once your journey is confirmed, you’ll receive a detailed invoice and timeline for payments.

Our secure client portal allows you to review your itinerary and payment history anytime.

What about changes or cancellations?

Changes made before your balance due date are usually free, subject to availability.

Cancellations follow our refund scale, which can be stricter during peak season and for non-refundable services. We’ll share current Terms & Conditions before you book so everything is clear.

Do you recommend travel insurance?

Yes — strongly.

Travel insurance protects you from unexpected cancellations, delays, medical issues, and lost baggage. We’ll happily provide documentation your insurer may require.

Do I need to bring cash?

Yes. Egypt is still a largely cash-forward country. Small notes (10/20/50 EGP) are useful for tips, bathrooms, and small vendors.

ATMs are common, and your guide can help you find reliable ones. Many travelers bring some USD as backup, but everyday spending is easiest in EGP.

Can I use credit cards in Egypt?

Major hotels and larger restaurants usually accept credit cards. Smaller shops and markets are cash-only.

Some places add a service charge or fee for card use, so it’s wise to keep some cash on hand each day — it keeps transactions smoother.

How does tipping work?

Tipping (“baksheesh”) in Egypt is a simple way to say thank you for good service.

As a general guide for ENA journeys:

  • Egyptologist guide: typically a set amount per touring day or per trip (outlined in your documents).
  • Drivers, hotel porters, boat staff, and quick helpers: smaller tips in local currency.
  • Restaurants: 10–15% if a service charge isn’t already included.

We’ll provide a simple tipping guide with suggested ranges before you travel so you never have to guess or feel pressured.

Practicalities

Do I need a visa?

Most travelers obtain visas on arrival or via e-visa, depending on passport and routing.

We’ll advise based on your nationality, but you should always confirm with official government sources before you fly.

What should I wear? Any etiquette tips?

Light, breathable clothing in natural fabrics works best. Egypt is relaxed and welcoming; modest-leaning clothing shows respect without requiring you to be fully covered.

For detailed practical tips, check Cleopatra’s cultural primer we share before your trip.

Do I need to speak Arabic?

No. Your guide speaks English and handles the logistics, translations, and arrangements.

Our mini-Masri kit helps you greet locals with a friendly “shukran” (thank you) and a big smile if you’d like to try a few words.

Is drinking alcohol allowed?

Yes — alcohol is available in hotels, onboard Nile cruises, and some restaurants. It’s not commonly consumed in everyday public spaces.

You’ll never be pressured one way or another; enjoy responsibly and respectfully.

What’s the dress code for temples and mosques?

Temples: light, breathable, modest-leaning clothing is ideal. Shoulders covered is comfortable for both sun and respect, but strict covering is rarely enforced for tourists.

Mosques: shoulders and knees should be covered; women may be asked to cover hair (many mosques offer wraps at the entrance).

In general, Egypt is flexible with tourists — comfort plus modest respect is the perfect balance.

Can I take photos everywhere?

Most sites allow photography, but some tombs and museums prohibit flash or require a separate ticket for professional cameras.

Drones are strictly prohibited without government permits.

Your Egyptologist will always let you know where photography is allowed so you never have to guess or worry.

Health & Safety

Is Egypt safe to travel with ENA?

Yes — with care and awareness.

We plan routes, timing, and logistics around what is best for travelers, monitor local updates, and stay personally involved in your comfort and safety throughout your trip.

Is Egypt walkable?

Egypt’s historic sites include uneven ground, stone pathways, sand, and stairs. Cities like Cairo and Luxor are not traditionally “walkable” in the Western sense.

We design pacing carefully so you can rest between sites, and your guide manages routes to keep things as comfortable as possible.

Can ENA help with accessibility or mobility limitations?

Absolutely. We tailor touring to your comfort level — choosing easier tombs, minimizing stairs where possible, adjusting pace, and arranging vehicle access wherever allowed.

Some historic sites have limitations, and your Egyptologist will help you choose the best alternatives so you never feel excluded.

Are your tours physically demanding?

Our tours are paced for comfort, not exhaustion. That said, Egypt’s climate and terrain can be tiring at times.

You can expect some walking, steps, and heat. Your guide will adjust the day based on your energy levels so you always feel supported, not pushed.

Is Egypt safe for solo female travelers?

Yes — with awareness and the right support.

At ENA, solo female travelers are guided by licensed Egyptologists who stay with you during touring days, assist with cultural nuances, and help you navigate markets and busy areas comfortably.

Egypt is warm and welcoming, and with a dedicated guide it’s a beautiful destination for solo explorers.

How do you handle heat and hydration?

We tour outdoors in the cool morning whenever possible, then shift to shade, boats, or A/C sites during the warmest hours.

We encourage breathable clothing, hats, and bottled water only, and your guide builds in regular rest and drink stops.

What if I feel unwell?

Your guide can adjust the pace, find shade or rest areas, and help you access medical care if needed.

Please follow your doctor’s advice for personal health concerns before you travel, and let us know about any major medical needs in advance so we can plan thoughtfully.
