How a Solo Trip Became a New Life
Egyptian Nile Adventures didn’t begin as a business.
It began with a question.
In 2019, I took my first solo trip to Egypt.
At the time, I was living on a farm in Texas and working as an interpreter for the Deaf. Egypt wasn’t part of some grand life plan. I was simply curious.
What I expected was a memorable vacation.
What I found was a country that kept calling me back.
That first trip became a second trip. The second trip became lasting friendships, deeper connections, and eventually a question I couldn’t ignore:
What would happen if I stopped visiting Egypt and actually lived here?
A few years later, I found myself doing exactly that.
Trading Familiar for Unknown
At 45, I left behind the life I had spent years building and moved to Egypt.
The transition wasn’t always easy.
I went from living on a farm in Texas to living in an apartment in Greater Cairo. I found myself navigating a new language, a different culture, and daily routines that often felt completely unfamiliar.
The first year felt exciting.
The second year was harder.
The novelty faded, and I found myself facing the reality of building a life in a place where very little felt familiar. There were moments when I questioned my decision and wondered whether I should return to the United States.
But somewhere along the way, something changed.
I stopped trying to make Egypt feel like Texas.
Instead, I began building a life here.
I fed the homeless cats on my street each day. I adopted several kittens that needed help. Eventually, I got a dog again—a small piece of the life I had always known.
What started as a move gradually became a home.
The Egypt Most Travelers Never See
Living in Egypt changed the way I experienced the country.
As a visitor, I saw the pyramids, temples, and famous landmarks.
As a resident, I discovered something more.
I discovered the conversations that happen over tea.
The quiet villages along the Nile.
The farmers working their fields at sunrise.
The fishermen casting their nets at dawn.
The families, traditions, and everyday moments that give meaning to the places travelers come to see.
I realized that Egypt’s greatest treasures aren’t only found inside ancient temples.
They’re found in the people and stories that continue around them every day.
Why ENA Exists
Egyptian Nile Adventures was created to bridge the gap between visiting Egypt and truly experiencing it.
Not by rushing from site to site.
Not by checking landmarks off a list.
But by helping travelers understand what they’re seeing, why it matters, and how it connects to the people and culture that surround it.
The goal has never been to sell tours.
